Celing, St Peter's  Basilica

I'm not really one for churches but in Rome you can't really avoid them and they really are worth taking a look at for their beautiful architecture.

St Peter's Square is wide and impressive, go inside the church though and you're in for a real treat. Intricately decorated ceilings, altar, paintings, floors on the inside. Grand columns, domes and facade on the outside. The dome was designed by poor old Michelangelo who seems to have spent his life doing the decorating round the Vatican including the frescos in the Sistine Chapel - when all he wanted to do was be a sculptor - he didn't much like painting at all.
