From the side the Pantheon doesn't look like much but
on closer inspection you see just what a grand old building
this is! Refreshingly cool after a hot day's wandering
around the city, it has this incredible dome with a hole
in the top that provides the only light and apparently
somehow manages to keep out the elements as well.
The ceiling is made up of hollow decorative features which
apparently reduce its weight (thereby presumably helping
prevent the whole thing from caving in on itself).
The Pantheon was built between AD 118-125 (which is less
time than it took to build our local sports centre with
none of the machinery so pretty impressive really).
There's a lovely fountain out front from which you can
sit and look at the impressive columns and watch the world
go by.
