It’s been great to see women’s football being televised over the last couple of weeks. The Fifa Women’s World Cup 2015 is with us, and so far, so fantastic.
My opening watch was Germany vs Ivory Coast (1st ever World Cup and ranked 67th). There was no shortage of goals with Germany (ranked no.1) getting 10 to Ivory Coast’s nil point. The score line doesn’t tell the full story though. My Westies (West African women) did us proud and gave Germany a couple of scares. Next time out I’m sure Ivory Coast will do better…
Cut to Switzeraland vs Cameroon last night and it was a whole different matter. Switzerland were tipped to win and took the lead in the first half. 2nd half BAM! the ‘underdogs’ equalised, A bit later BAM again to seal the deal and progress beyond the group stages. Fantastic result and lots of firsts for this African nation.
Gotta say, the quality of the footie has been very impressive pretty much across the board. Of course, there are other matches in the tournament… I’m looking forward to catching up with as many as possible of the remaining matches on the good old Beeb.
My money’s on an all African nations final…hey, a woman’s gotta have a dream…
