It’s been a fairly hectic cultural schedule over the last week or so including way more cinema outings than I’d normally have.
First off the very entertaining the grand budapest hotel – a fine bit of silliness to end a hard working week.
Next up, an afternoon socializing at the BFI Flare Film Festival after watching a great film, Tru Love. A fantastic film shot in just 20 days and not noticeably low budget.
Finally a compelling documentary Born This Way, about life for LGBT people in Cameroon – shown as part of the Human Rights Watch Film Festival . Brave men and women, living in a highly repressive regime where the catholic church disgracefully plays a huge role in stoking homophobia, hatred and violence.
More information on the issue over at Human Rights Watch.
So it’s been an emotional celluloid roller coaster of fun, hope, and sadness at the depths to which humanity can sometimes plunge.
