Went to see this brilliant though hard to watch film at the weekend. Director Steve McQueen does a fantastic job of telling the story of Solomon Northup a free black man who was tricked, kidnapped and taken into slavery. Like many others I left the cinema feeling shell shocked.
The pace of the film is slow enough to give time for the viewer to take in the reality of the brutality of slavery in a way I don’t remember experiencing in other films I’ve seen on the subject.
Lead actor Chiwetel Ejiofor is absolutely incredible in his portrayal of Northup and it’s impossible not be moved by his every scene. However the whole cast played their part in this extraordinary film – the best I’ve seen- rightly deserving all the plaudits it’s received and more… Go see it!
Read your blog a couple of days ago and saw you mention this film…..looked it up for Lovemore – and no go….looked it up again just now – and Lovemore has it now. Seeing it tomorrow. xox
That’s great Deb. Let me know what you think…
LOLOL sorry mate…..may have to go and see it again!! I wasn’t alone!!!!
Sitting in the back row at the movies were we. This is not appropriate behaviour for a film of such gravitas. Consider yourself in detention during which you will watch the film again and pay attention!
