Northland 4

Well been having a great old time up here in Northland. Spent first day here chillin and did a walk into Pahia along the coastal track.

Then to Waitangi treaty house where important stuff happened back in the mists of time.

Next day did a trip on the Dune Rider to the far north – Ninety Mile Beach, Cape Reinga, Tapotupotu bay, Manganoi world famous fish and chip shop (delicious!). Long day (was picked up at 7.15 am – yes it seems I’ve had a personality transplant while here!!).

Cape Reinga

Following day spent morning chilling and walked the other way along the track to check out the mangroves:

Mangroves

Then did a “Dolphin Tour” (- sans dolphins but it didn’t matter too much as I saw dolphins right up close in Waiheke – they came right into the bay and all but walked in the pub to have a drink with us). The islands in the Bay of Islands were beautiful. Then stopped off in Russel for the afternoon before returning to Pahia and having a wicked dinner at the Thai Cafe (note to self – do not have spicy meal night before long journey…)

Bay of Islands Tour - Hole in the rock

This morning was up with  the larks to see the sun rise over the beautiful beach near the campsite:

Beach, Pahia, North Island, New Zealand

Leaving camp today and heading south to see friends in Tauranga for a few days.

wow Abs, nice photos. Sounds like you’re on a really great trip. Love pic of you and your camper van, looks very cosy. What kind of fish did you get with your chips? I’m guessing it wasn’t cod. Well done with all the dawn rising, worth it for the fab photo of other early birds on the beach.

Britain’s currently wet and chilly and in Devon we’re deeply into the “mud world” season. You chose a good time to escape and catch a bit of summer. Hope you enjoy seeing your pals. Thanks for sharing your adventures. Big hugs Jillx
