So I’m in Orlando Florida for a conference. Now it’s all over and I have a bit of spare time on my hands only to discover that if you’re not into Disneyworld or any of its offshoots, besides shopping, there ain’t a lot else to do that doesn’t involve a wallet bashing cab ride (according to the hotel Concierge anyway – and she reckoned it wasn’t worth the trip – who am I to argue with a local?)
Last night went to a couple of malls a short distance from where I’m staying. What should have been a 5-10 minute cab ride back from the mall ended up being a 45 minute magical mystery tour as the cab driver had no idea where he was going. Fortunately, he didn’t charge me for the pleasure, but it did mean I got back to base far later than expected.
Learning point: unlike London, one cannot necessarily expect licensed cab drivers to know where the hell they’re going round these parts – factor this in before going to out of the way shopping malls on dark deserted stretches of freeway…
To entertain myself this afternoon I sat around surfing some of the trash websites featured in the November issue of .net magazine.
The game Feed The Head kept me entertained for a while, as did the video clips at beatbots.org. However, the most compulsive viewing was to be found at livingwithstrangers.com – a couple of women sneak into other people’s houses and try to live there for a few days without being discovered. Now who knows whether it’s true or they’re acting – who cares, it’s (disconcertingly) gripping stuff! Here’s hoping I don’t arrive home to find they’ve been living round at my gaff while I’ve been stuck here in la la land. Anyway back to the plot – still a lot more footage to watch…
