Have now left the grey drizzle of San Francisco behind. After a 4 am start arrived in Lima Peru via Houston. Got to travel first class on the Houston to Lima stretch which was very nice indeed. Shame not to get upgraded more often …
Got 6 hours or so to kill at Lima airport before flight to Cuzco. Arrived bleary eyed and not exactly with it. The ground beneath me is doing that weird moving thing I got on arriving in San Francisco after longish flight.
Despite my not-with-it-ness, managed to avoid falling victim to a scam in the arrivals area. No doubt because I was looking vague and not exactly with it (maybe even swaying a bit), got targeted by a couple of uniformed guys claiming to be from Lan Peru, the airline for my next flight.
They very convincingly claimed it was not possible to check in for domestic flights in the terminal building because it was the international airport, and that I needed to get in a car with and go to some other place (Miraflores) where I could check in for my domestic flight to Cuzco. Then get brought back to the airport to get on the plane.
Apart from the fact that the whole story seemed a very weird even in my altered state of togetherness (there´s only one airport in Lima with plenty of signs in the building saying domestic departures this way …), it was the taxi sign in the car dashboard that finally gave the game away. My wits returned to me just in time and I was soon on my way back to the airport terminal checking in at the real Lan Peru desk. Nice try guys …
Looking forward to enjoying the many more postive experiences Peru has to offer. Just need to keep myself entertained and awake for the next few hours …
