Historical vessel, Balclutha, National Maritime Historical Park, San Francisco

Click on the pic to return to San Francisco story

San Francisco is pretty hilly, so as well as keeping you fit, it has the advantage that there are plenty of places you happen upon that afford a pretty decent view (absence of fog permitting). After a walk across Golden Gate Bridge, as I was wandering back into town along Bay Street near North Point, I came upon this view down to the Maritime park.

The ship in the picture, the Balclutha has been painstakingly restored by the San Francisco Maritime Museum with the help of donations from the local community.

Just beyond the ship, in the background, is the formidable looking Alcatraz Prison on Alcatraz Island...
