Wellington Harbour, New Zealand

Mount Victoria provides superb views of Wellington city and harbour and is definitely worth the climb (which is kind of steep in places but it is possible to drive up).

Walking up and back takes about an hour and a half including a bit of time being mesmerised by the view. However it's also nice to spend a while wandering around Mt. Victoria itself appreciating the flowers and trees, rather than just heading for the lookout point and coming back down again -- there are several ways up and down and around it.

Be warned it can get pretty windy at the top so hold onto your hat and don't forget that extra warm layer in case the weather turns!

Wellington is a really easy city to walk around -- nice and compact. So if you're not to knackered after the hill, there's various other walks you can do round the city itself to see what you saw from the top. Alternatively, take the path down Mt. Vic to Oriental Parade checking out the plush houses on the way, and sit and watch the world go by for a while on the little beach at Oriental Bay.
