This amazing futuristic-looking complex somehow still manages to fit in with the rest of the city -- old and new living together in perfect harmony (well I thought so anyway). The whole of the immediate area is very striking, beautiful and somehow peaceful too despite the fact there were lots of people around. Known as Cuidad de las Artes y la Ciencias (city of arts and sciences), it forms part of "Europe's largest urban culture and leisure centre". It and the rest of the leisure facilities including a park, and lots of other stuff, stretches along an old dry river bed. The dome in the foreground is described as a "giant eyelid" and contains an iMax cinema and planetarium. In the background the Palace of Music was still under construction. The walk back into the old city along the river bed was very pleasant. Valencians obviously like their fun as all the facilities were being well used. |
