Click on the pic to return to Spain 2006 story The pretty, old village of Alcaucin was about a 1km down the hill from the hotel. We spent a fair bit of time at Carlos' bar and restaurant, probably the best actually in the village. Carlos himself and other Alcaucin folk were a friendly bunch, and tolerant of my few badly pronounced words of Spanish which was a bonus. People seemed to come from all around the area to fill their water bottles from the village drinking fountain which draws its water from the springs up in the surrounding hills. There seemed to be a bit of property development happening on the outskirts of Alcaucin but hopefully the village and surrounds will retain their charm in spite of this. |
