The drive up to Ronda was fantastic and the town itself is pretty. Best of all are the views - the spectacular gorge (El Tajo), mountains, interesting old town with buildings dating from the 13th century and a stunning 18th Century arched bridge, Moorish architecture, pretty little squares and cafés, tall whitewashed houses and beautiful gardens to name but a few attractions. There is also beautiful (if a little strenuous) walking to be had. We set off for a wee walk down the side of the gorge conveniently forgetting that we had to walk back up again (the climb was practically vertical!). Fortunately, along came a nice man called Antonio in his battered Jalopy and he was kind enough to give us a lift back up the hill. So we had a drink with him and fun trying to communicate with each other in Spanish (very bad Spanish in our case but we somehow managed to get by). |
