Click on the pic to return to San Francisco story The cable car is like a mini roller coaster ride - kinda touristy but really good fun. There's no overhead cables but rather a cable under ground that turns continuously. The cable car driver operates a few levers to grip the cable in order to move and release it to stop - oh well it's something like that anyway. The views from the top of Lombard street on this cable car route was fantastic. Lombard street itself is very steep and one section of it is the wiggliest road in the city with 9 hairpin bends in a distance of just a few yards. The brave (or is it foolish?) come by car for the challenge of driving down (or up) - very amusing to watch ... |
