Click on the pic to return to San Francisco story Well we didn't really visit Alcatraz ... But as you can see, we got close enough to take a good look at this stark island home of the famous ex high security prison, and scene of the odd Hollywood movie. Naturally there are now tours of the prison for those who're interested and I'm told the history of the island is quite fascinating. Maybe some other time - the weather was far too beautiful at the time to wander around a dank, dark prison no matter how fascinating. Had we got up early enough my first choice would be to hit Angel Island which used to be a government immigration detention centre. Thankfully it's now more of a natural park that looks and sounds like it would be fun to explore. IT even has a little beach for those sun worshippers out there. |
