We didn't actually spend a lot of time looking around Santa Maria del Popolo but passed it on our way to Villa Borghese Park. We arrived at the park just in time to see folk clearing up after what looked like the biggest chocolate festival ever. This was seriously bad news for me as I'm a bit of a chocoholic. Still the beauty and peace of the park and wonderful views of the city including Piazza del Popolo almost made up for the fact that I'd missed a chocolate feast. Still, it sounds like Santa Maria del Popolo is worth paying a longer visit to with it's artistic treasures, ornately decorated floors, walls and ceilings and stained glass windows. |
