We didn't actually stop off here other than to take a photo as we passed on while walking down Via Crescenzio our way to the Vatican. There's just far too much to see in Rome and as we only had short time we had to be selective. The Castel is pretty old really (like lots of stuff in Rome) and was built in AD 139 as a mausoleum. The guidebooks told us we missed lots of interesting architectural features and great views of Rome from the Castel's terrace so perhaps on our next visit we'll pay it a bit more attention. From what we saw it looks a beautiful building with lovely gardens in which to sit and rest your tired tourist feet. |
