I stopped off at Kaiteriteri en route to Abel Tasman National Park. What a beautiful place. There's a fantastic beach and you can take all manner of tours including guided kayaking up to Abel Tasman itself. If you prefer to be on terra firma, Withell's walk is a good option taking you up a hill into native bush and giving fantastic views of Kaiteriteri below. There are lots of little tracks to wander off along. The sound of silence interspersed with unfamiliar and beautiful birdsong was utter bliss. I don't think I passed another human being while I was up there. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. A sturdy pair of boots or walking shoes is a good idea as there's loads of exposed tree roots and other hazards to trip you up. If climbing up hills is not your thing exploring the beach and it's sheltered coves is another possibility. In short, Kaiteriteri is definitely worth a look. |
