Click on the pic to return to Ghana 2003 story Cape Coast was once Ghana's capital city until the powers that be saw fit to change the capital to Accra in around 1877. It's a busy town with lots of good schools, good people, fish and mucho history - it's variously been "colonised" by the British, Portuguese and Dutch and was a centre for the slave trade. It's easy to get to from Accra on the bus and there's loads of other stuff to see and do in the area. Visits to the castles at Cape Coast and nearby Elmina are a must, and history boffins will be in 7th heaven as they walk through the castles and town itself. Cape Coast also boasts some pretty nice stretches of beach so even history slackers will find something there for them. |
