Travels in Spain

Viva España

We recently headed off for a well deserved break at our usual spot in Spain, Casa Grandina, Huerta de Ranea. First stop after the airport, Torremolinos and  El Sardina, our favourite spot for Sardines a la Plancha, Boquerones, nice cold cerveza (sin alcohol) and a great view of the beach. Despite being early in the season, the restaurant was packed as usual – unsurprisingly as the food is delicious. Bellies […]

Sulphur Spring

A wonderful week in Spain… 2

Back to Casa Granadina for a week of spring sunshine, warmth, relaxation, walking and all things good. Stopped off in Torremelinos en route from the airport for lovely meal,  cold beer (non alcoholic). Picked up a couple of nice tees in a local mall. Arrived at Casa Granadina, the river was more than a trickle and refreshingly cooling on the feet. Got down and dirty on the river bank trying […]

Restorative break… aaahhh… 1

Recently back from a wonderful week at Casa Granadina, being hosted by the fantastic Rosie. Just what we needed and we couldn’t have been better taken care of… Walks, food, evening entertainment (Scrabble mostly), company all totally top notch, and added bonus, wonderful weather for the whole week (though not sure Rosie had complete control of the latter). Day one was a relaxed walk to the lovely village of Guaro […]

Water bottles

Another spring hol in Spain 1

Managed to get home from a lovely week’s break in Spain despite the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud. My second stay at Casa Granadina was at least as fabulous as the first last October. Rosie, true to her word scoped out some great new walks. The weather was warm and sunny but mostly not too hot which was great. For the first walk we headed out to Alfarnate. Spectacular mountain views […]

At last an Ibex!

Just back from another fab week walking in Spain. Staying at Casa Granadina in Huerta de Ranea. Great weather, great walking, great company and great home cooked food courtesy of Rosie – definitely the hostess with the mostest. My favourite walk of the week had to be at El Torcal. Went there a few years back in the pouring rain and mis. This time though it was wall to wall […]

Lottsa Women Walking

Just back from another fabulous week walking in Aracena, Spain with the fab women Lottsa Women Walking and 6 lovely lassies from Leeds. Started off in Galaroza for 3 nights and did a couple of really gorgeous walks. The best was yet to come with 4 nights at the wonderfully idyllic Molino Rio Alajar. More fabulous walking and a riot of colour provided by the profusion of spring flowers. Did […]

Walking in the Alpujarras

Went on another fabulous walking holiday in Spain, this time to the Alpujarras  mountain range just south of Granada. Capileira and the Mesa Hostal Poqueira was  our base for lots of great walks. Took things easy on day one with a short 6-7 Km circular walk to Cebadilla via Bubion. Next day saw a slightly longer but equally beautiful walk from Capeleira taking in some of the other whitewashed mountain […]

Aracena the story

Have at last got round to sticking up some more photos so check out what I got up to while walking in La Sierra de Aracena, Spain. More photos of the trip on photography pages. Thanks to Rosie and Ju of Lottsa Women Walking and the other women on the holiday for a great time.

Viva Aracena

At the beginning of the week the forecast looked like it would be wall to wall rain for my time in Spain. But nearer to leaving my heart is well, heartened to find that it may well be wall to wall sunshine instead. Off to bed to dream of cloudless skies, spring flowers, great eating and blissfully chilled days. Watch this space …
