Kamping in Kessingland…

…A much needed long weekend and an excuse for a campervan getaway to Kessingland in Suffolk. Never heard of the place before this trip but have enjoyed stays in the general area before. Predictably for a public holiday weekend the weather forecast was shite, and predictably for a public holiday weekend, the forecast for shite weather was accurate. We arrived at the campsite a couple of hours before Africa Alive, […]

Oh what a luvverly summer… 1

OK, so this is gonna be a long post. Been somewhat remiss about blogging as has been pointed out to me… but only because I’ve been oot and aboot enjoying the summer while it lasts. Early September saw us in Woolacombe Devon, for a great week in the camper van, and visiting friends en route in Bristol and other bits of Devon. Our first campsite in Devon was something of […]

Sounds of…

…Free music… One of the things I love about a typical fickle British summer is the amount of superb free music that can be found without too much looking. The Horniman Museum and Gardens is one such fabulous venue and provides lots of other stuff to occupy, including the nearby lovely Sydenham Hill Woods, which form part of London’s Green Chain Walk. I digress. I’ve spoken of the fantastic Congolese […]

There goes the summer…

Ok so in typical UK summertime fashion, it’s come and gone in the blink of an eye… Still, the rain didn’t dampen our spirits for our second trip in the camper van. With a couple of weeks gone since we first tried her out, we were better equipped for a longer weekend. We arrived at Crowborough campsite in the pouring rain but hey, a sunny day was forecast for the […]

The country comes to town

London’s Brixton gets some occasional bad press mainly because of past riots. However, it’s a great part of town and once a year comes the weekend long Lambeth Country Show. An opportunity to hear great music, lie about in the sunshine, quaff gallons of highly potent Chucklehead cider, watch a sheep shearing show and much more… all for free! Last year the headline act Aswad got totally rained off… a […]

Here comes the summer…

Very excited about the summer which hasn’t been shaping up too badly so far… After falling in love with travels in a camper van in foreign climes, finally bit the bullet and got one of these. For our first try out we headed out to Oldbury Hill in kent. The campsite was great, not least because of the friendly couple running it. Better still we only had to walk to […]

Brighton Festival

Had a lovely weekend in / around Brighton during which we checked out a couple of great acts at the festival, went for a lovely walk at Castle Hill Reserve on the South Downs and visited a great artist open house whilst indulging myself with the best flapjack I’ve ever tasted accompanied by a lovely cuppa, courtesy of Connie’s Kitzchen. The orchids and other wildflowers were out at the reserve, […]

The journey continues – Hong Kong 1

After a fab couple of weeks partying in Australia, it was time for a bit of a rest in Hong Kong. We arrived a bit too early to check into our hotel on Queen Street West. Handily located right next to HKU MTR station on the Island Line of the most excellent metro system. Dumped our bags and went for a wander to check out the local food outlets. The […]

I’ve come from a land down under… 3

…Recently back from a flying visit to Australia to help long time friend and emigr√© to celebrate a big (let’s face it it was an epic) birthday. Had a fabulous time and it was great catching up with friends old and new, from this side of the pond and the other. Started of with a night in Brisbane, followed by a morning of retail outlet shopping near the airport. Then […]

London Fields to Hackney Wick… 2

Got a couple of Stephen Miller’s series of books on London’s Hidden Walks for crimbo, and have made it my mission to get through all of the walks in volume 3 during 2015.   It remains to be seen whether that goal is actually achieved. However, we made a damn good start today with a variation on walk no. 11 of Volume 3 – Bethnal Green and Hackney Wick. These […]
