Beautiful sunny morning 2

Woke up to a beautiful sunny morning which inspired me to take a walk and some more photos, then come back home and start a new collection of photos on the seasons. Looking forward to having guests for Sunday lunch tomorrow and us all catching up with Deb on Skype. She’s got a dongle now you know which is a rare and wonderful thing in the rural land of the […]

Farewell Madiba

The day many of us have been dreading since it was reported over the summer that Nelson Mandela was struggling to overcome a lung infection. Can’t believe he’s gone… He lived a life that is definitely worth celebrating. RIP

Sea and sky

Blue is the warmest colour

2nd film in less than a week, I’m on a roll here. You don’t spot a decent film for ages then 3 come along at once…                         Blue is the warmest colour is French, and very, very, loooong (- 3hr and 7 minutes to be precise). Girl (Adèle) meets girl with blue hair (Emma), falls in love. All ends […]

Philomena and Joanna’s

Philomena starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan is a great, and moving film about a woman searching for her son she was forced to give up as a teenager. Thoroughly recommend it. The Catholic church has a lot to answer for…Nuff said… On a slightly (let’s face it completely) tangential note another thing to thoroughly recommend is Joanna’s Restaurant in London’s Crystal Palace. Great place for a Sunday roast and […]

Muntu, Manu, and Courtney

Went to a fantastic gig at the Barbican last night. A low key celebration of Manu Dibango’s 80th birthday (only low key coz he didn’t want to make a fuss…). Fellow Cameroonian Muntu Valdo was the support for the evening and entertained with his amazing live loop effects, making one man on his own sound like a full band. Next up the main man Manu himself strolled on stage and […]

Technical support that’s actually er… helpful

Just wanted to thank the folk over at Krystal for helping me sort out some of the problems I was having with the photo galleries on this site. All now seems to be working lovely thanks to them pointing out (in a helpful and non patronising way) the obvious and not so obvious things that were causing a problem. And frankly going above and beyond the call of duty to […]

Candidates for Shit London? 1

Not that I particularly wish to promote Amazon the (in)famous online bookstore… there’s a book called Shit London which will make a good crimbo present for someone somewhere (hint, hint…). As I was wandering round and about while visiting a friend today, I came across this sign prompting disabled people to ring a non existent bell to get help getting into the offending public building. Now that’s pretty shit. Get […]

Proper Tea 1

In between giving the website (well the blog bit of it anyway) a long overdue overhaul, and other extreme busy ness, there has fortunately been time for a bit of amusement… Thanks to L and P for sending this one my way… And Deb for bringing this to my attention… Choice!

Water bottles

Restorative break… aaahhh… 1

Recently back from a wonderful week at Casa Granadina, being hosted by the fantastic Rosie. Just what we needed and we couldn’t have been better taken care of… Walks, food, evening entertainment (Scrabble mostly), company all totally top notch, and added bonus, wonderful weather for the whole week (though not sure Rosie had complete control of the latter). Day one was a relaxed walk to the lovely village of Guaro […]
